 1. what is Hegemony? 

Cultural hegemony implies the dominance of one social group and its ideologies over other social groups.

2. Who came up with the theory? 

Gramsci, a philosopher, author, politician and Marxist in Italy from 1891-1937.

3. What are some examples (use your own - research them), of this in Western media / culture today? 

- International Crisis Framing: E.g. the Madeleine McCann disappearance, which has received a lot of attention and emphasized in western media news outlets compared to other children who disappeared, who were not white and middle class/upper class.

- Hollywood: The 'American Dream' is sold thorugh media - America has what could be called a monopoly over large media companies - they produce ideologies etc.
