 1. Examples of censorship happening with Disney plus. What and why? 

  • Song of the south not on service

  • Editing dumbo for the service and taking out offensive scenes

2. Examples of censorship in other countries (include in this, notes from our China censorship studies in last year's study notes)

  • Nudity they censor it

  • Fifty shades of gray did not come out

  • Shape of water was censored because nudity was censored and they put a black tube dress on her to cover it up

  • Coco not come out in china bc they cant watch movies about afterlife but then one of the editors saw it and cried so they did add it to china

3. Points for / against censorship as presented in this clip - should art be censored? 

- if something is wrong but it is part of history, should it be cut out so as to not offend people today? Where is that line in society? Who is making these decisions?
- No, because art is a reflection of the culture and times we live in at the moment - a capsule of time.
- Media is a form of documentation - of history.
- When does the art separate from the artist itself? Should artists be allowed to revisit and re edit their art?
- Removing movies is taking away from history - editing history. ‘Those who ignore history are   bound to repeat it.’
- Art should never be censored, even if inconvenient; opinion.
- When you pretend it's not there, you ignore the context.

4. What are some issues around censorship in our modern world and how we are consuming media? 

  • So many kids are watching and streaming things without parental supervision.

  • Media teaches children their beliefs due to absence of parents or parental neglect.
