Film Task: Communicating Meaning

 SCRIPT:

EXT. OUTSIDE

Lucy pulls into the driveway. She turns the car off and walks towards the front door, where she knocks. Her sister, Olivia opens the door, takes one look at Lucy, and then slams it shut. Lucy knocks on the door violently. Olivia, annoyed, opens the door again.

OLIVIA
What do you want? What else do you want to take from me?!

LUCY
I just want a chance to explain!

Olivia
No!

The two get into a physical fight as Lucy tries to stop Olivia from closing the door.

CUT TO -

INT. Olivia’s bedroom

OLIVIA
What do you want?

LUCY
To explain what happened.

OLIVIA
I know what happened. You kissed. My. Man.

LUCY
He wasn’t your man?!

OLIVIA
He was going to be, until you ruined it!

LUCY
(sarcastically)
You know what? Fine, you can have him. I don’t want him anyways.

OLIVIA
No, I don’t want him now. You probably gave him a disease.

LUCY
You’re the one with the disease!

Silent tension. The two look at each other. A childhood photo of Lucy and Olivia is on the wall. Lucy looks at it, and suddenly her expression changes - there is an understanding. That sisterhood is more important than this drama.

A beat.j

Then -

LUCY
I’m sorry.

Olivia notices Lucy’s gaze, and looks at the childhood picture too. A mutual understanding is seen on their expressions.

OLIVIA
He was ugly anyways.

Lucy smiles, and then gets up, and walks towards Olivia. The two embrace in a hug.
